Pi scanned the professor in front of him, wondering how old this guy really was. Kimura's definition of old...apparently meant really old. If Kimura had learned a lot from him, how old was Kimura then? Pi tried not to stare too much at the wrinkled face of the man. He knew that in times like these, age was something stunning. To his right side he could see Mika, trying to hide her own surprise too. She smiled when she saw his glance, bending forward a bit. “Old?” she whispered into his ear. “This man is a fossil.”
Kimura shot the both of them a glare, making Mika grin a bit and Pi blush. Pi took a deep breath, trying to gather his senses to stay concentrated and focused here. After all this man might be able to help them.
The professor smiled at them happily. “I'm always happy to see some of my old students here.” he smiled proudly. “Takuya was definitely the best.”
“That's a given!” Mika agreed. Pi had to smile a bit because she sounded so proud.
“And you young man...” the professor eyed Pi in interest. “You are also a Hunter, am I right?”
“Yes.” Pi bowed a bit. “I'm really feeling honoured to meet you.”
The old man smiled happily. “I'm always glad to meet Hunters who have the courage to fight against the system they are in.” He patted Pi's shoulder. “You know, having a lot of power means having a lot of responsible. The mass of the Hunters isn't really dealing well with that...”
“I know.” A sad smile appeared on Yamapi's face. “I believe that there is more to our existence than just killing...”
“There surely is.” the man mused.
Yamapi's eyes widened at that. “Do you know anything specific about that?”
The other smiled. “You know son...” he patted Pi's head. “I won't give you answers that are lying deep inside you too. You'll find them yourself, I'm sure about that.” He got lost in his thoughts for a moment. “But I guess you guys are here for a reason, right Takuya?”
Kimura bowed a bit. “You are right. We have to bother you with some questions for a moment.” He pointed at Yamapi. “Some weeks ago he met a Vampire. Apparently a quite old one… or simply a really strong one. Pure-blooded...”
The professor's gaze snapped up to look directly at them. “You mean he came out of a family where all the ancestors were Vampires? Vampires like these are so rare...”
“Why?” Pi asked carefully.
Mika smiled at that question. “There are several reasons.” she answered. “First... a Vampire has feelings, like every other being. Now if you are forced into a marriage with another pure-blooded Vampire, you may be able to keep the blood-line. But what if you can choose yourself?”
Pi nodded his head, smiling a bit. “And the other reason?”
Mika stayed quiet for a moment. “They were hunted” she finally mumbled, visibly feeling uncomfortable by saying it out loud. “They are powerful. And different. Even out of a normal Vampire's eyes they are different, because so pure in their emotions, that's why they are dangerous.” She rubbed the ankles of her fingers against her stomach soothingly. “That's why they were hunted. Mostly by Humans... and Hunters. A secret war, you know?”
Kimura nodded his head. “From what I heard it was a dark time... I wasn't born yet though.”
The professor nodded his head eagerly. “That's true. The war stopped, out of a sudden.” he sighed. “We don't really know the answers why. But...” he paused.
“But what?” Yamapi asked curiously. He was eager to hear about these stories, since they weren't told within the Hunters. As if they were just showing them half the truth.
The professor sighed a bit. “It's said that they have a kingdom.”
“A what?” Pi blinked.
“Emperors.” the professor smiled a bit. “Who knows what power lies beneath these Kings and their descendants?”
“The power of peace?” Pi mused.
Takuya smiled at that pure answer. “This would be a beautiful power then.” he patted Pi's shoulder a bit. “Maybe they have this power. But maybe it's difficult to use.”
“Because...” Mika smiled. “How can you try to bring peace for the people if you feel so much wrath and hate towards them?”
The blades of the swords where smashing against armours and other swords, making an almost beautiful concert like that. A deathly sonata. As if the sound of death was lying in the air. Where did they come from? How did they find them? Why were there so many? Who gathered them? Which demon united them? Why did they start killing them out of a simple fear of something that was different and not that easy to understand?
It was not that difficult to kill a Vampire, one had just to know when. Or with what. You had to fight unfair. And that was what they did. Fighting unfair. Many of them had no chance to survive. Blood was dripping from walls, running over floors, fire burning down houses and castles. Like hunting wild animals. Almost all traces of their existence wiped away.
Jun woke up, eyelids widely opened, though his eyes didn't move at all. He panted heavily, sweat dripping from his forehead. With a swift movement he was up his feet, walking around a bit. He sighed. No way could he sleep now... his dreams hadn't been peaceful since centuries. He hated the moment when his eyes got heavy and he had no other opportunity than to close them and fall into the darkness.
With fast steps he left his room. It was an old building they were living in. Floors and staircases made out of stone, like a little castle. He sighed, taking the steps up to the roof. With a swift movement he jumped out of the door onto the highest point of the roof. The place Ryo kept painting sometimes. He didn't know why, but staying here for a moment made him feel more on ease. Almost peaceful. As if Ryo's calm aura was there.
He blinked a bit when he found Jin lying there, looking up at the stars. Jin sneered a bit. “Having sweet dreams?”
Jin turned his head, eyes piercing Jun. “You tell me.” he answered instead, with an instinct that made Jun still feel surprised occasionally.
“No.” Jun sighed a bit, sitting down. “And you? What's lying on your mind? Are you gonna tell me?”
Jun didn't ask any further, neither did Jin. Both of them looked up the sky, thinking about their own problems. Jun sighed. War had always surrounded him. Always. Now that it was over, he couldn't believe it. It was over, but it didn't feel like it. Maybe Ryo was right. Maybe the biggest war they were fighting was inside their heart.
Their days were long. Not that Jin didn't have anything to do, but he felt bored sometimes. Especially when neither Jun nor Ryo were around. Even a few hours alone could already be turned into something boring. Or maybe he didn’t feel bored, but restless.
As if something inside him was searching and fighting all the time. Ryo and Jun didn't know it... or not to that extent. They didn't know how to fight against oneself all the time and not having a break from it for a short moment. It was always a fight. When the feelings inside him got over the top, it was like water running out from a bottle that was filled too high. It would destroy and hurt and overwhelm. Not him, but everyone else around him. And exactly that was what he feared the most. He didn't want to hurt those he loved, the only ones that were close to him. He wanted to protect them with all his might.
Was leaving the necklace with Tomohisa a good decision?
But then... Jin sighed. The necklace had helped him to control his emotions. But it had never been him... his feelings weren't his. It was someone else who forced its way to his mind. And being manipulated could be dangerous for him.
Back then when he had met this guy… there was something in his eyes, something that remembered Jin from times that had passed long ago. Just what was it? He didn’t know it yet, but out of an instinct he had reacted. Maybe this was their last chance to break this spell or curse or whatever it was.
And a pure guy like Tomohisa on the other side could make good use of it. Hopefully he would... It had been just a short moment, nothing planned, when Jin had left him the necklace. He had never felt that way... It was like an intimate moment with this pure guy had been able to change his way of feeling and thinking, at least for one moment. And when Jin felt the anger overwhelming him, bringing him in danger to let the water flow over the top, he remembered it. This moment. And also others he had gathered. Moments with his brother. Moments with Jun. If he remembered the feelings he had towards these three, he could fight the monster inside him back.
On a small field near the beach Ryo could feel two arms coming from behind, suddenly being wrapped around his waist, fingers stroking over his chest sweetly, making his heart beat incoherently. At this moment Ryo couldn't even think about their rules anymore. What did this mean... forbidden? He couldn't understand it. And because he didn't understand it anymore, he simply leaned into these soft, promising and soothing touches.
